Main Task: Unmanipulated Photos
This image is going to be my conents page picture, focusing on a second main article about the two subjects in the photo. I choose to use this photo for my contents page because its relevant to the main music topic, both of them are listening to music from the headphones and are dressed in stylish, fashionable way.

Main Task: Mood Board

This is my mood board, it is based on the hip hop/rap genre which benifits towards my music magazine. In this I have used rap artists such as Drake and Tyler, the Creator. I also added jewerlly and money to put towards the rap genre and I added pictures of a car, trainers and other conventional objects. Plus brands and labels to this which links well with the rap genre. I also have the MTV logo there as well because the channel is based on the popular mainstream rap and hip hop music.
Main Task: Case Study of a Publishing House
The Publishing house magazine company I am going to use to analyse is MusicMags. MusicMags is a publishing house that specifies on different areas of the music genre so it’s good for people who are looking for certain things within musical aspects of the music industry whether its to do with specific instruments or based on the general genre of a certain music magazine.
This MusicMags publishes different company magazines because it can relate to what their based on, popular companies such as ‘Billboard’, ‘Sound on Sound’, plus other not as popular companies but ones that can relate to the what this publishing house is based on such as ‘Jazz Times’, ‘Drum!’ and ‘Music Connection’. These companies produce magazines that are all similar to each other and that can represent the MusicMags Company all together which they could make a lot of money from.
From the company MusicMags the other companies magazines that they publish gives the audience a variation of different types of genres to chose from and different areas in music to look into, e.g. An older audience, middle age, with an experience in guitars would look into buying ‘Guitar’ , ‘Music Connections’ or ‘Bass Player’ because those magazines specify in the guitar area for older people whereas magazines such as ‘Guitar Player’ or ‘Revolver’ are targeted at the younger audiences who are interested in that certain type of musical instrument. Other guitar magazines teach people how to use them and learn the functions of them rather than read about things to do with it, ‘acoustic guitar’ and ‘Finger Style’ are both magazines that teach different aged target audiences, mostly males, how to use the guitar and how it works.

MusicMags does not only publish guitar magazines from companies, it also includes magazines that specify in Keyboards, Strings, Drums and DJ artists so different aged audiences can relate to the music magazine because it’s within their interest. With each magazine that is published the company makes money from different audiences because they focus on different areas of music, this magazine company distributes many sorts of ‘mags’ specialized on all different sections and genres of music so it gives their audience a wide range of choices to chose from.

This company does not have any other business interests, it focuses all on music and publishing what companies produce for the in a magazine form.
I think that this Publishing House Company would publish my rap hip-hop magazine because it’s an all rounder music mag company which doesn’t specify on only one genre or type of adding my own music magazine could give the company some inspiration and an example of what else could be published from them and bring in several customers. Having a hip hop inspired magazine brought to the publishing house could hopefully start an even wider range of genres to be looked at by targeted audiences.

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

He goes to concerts whenever his rap idols feature in them over his college term holidays. He is in his first year of college and has music as one of his AS levels so he can persue his knowledge about music further. Theo is keen on how to create the instrumentals that he hears from hip hop music so he too in the future can get into the producing career and work his way up to be able to create beats for his idols. Theo also checks rap artist's twitter page's and 'Formspring' accounts in his own time to learn more about them, as he looks up to rappers as his heros.

Theo usually buys his favourite rapper's album on their release date and sends positive comments about the album on their twitter page. Theo listens to music from rappers such as Drake, Lil Wayne, Tyler the Creator, Eminem etc... Theo always keeps his iPod Touch, stacked with rap, hip hop and also beats/instrumentals, on him so he has access to listen to it whenever he wants on his prized possession 'Dre Beats' headphones.

He wears similar clothing to his favourite rappers such as having on expensive Adidas trainers, a black Nike bodywamer and black jeans with the Supreme hat. Though a huge hip hop music fan, he loves his movies, handheld gaming and cooking.

Theo is a great example of the perfect reader of our music magazine; he's young, loves his hip hop music and looks up to rap artists. Theo is the type of fan that we venture to find when our music mag is released in the near future.
Main Task: Audience Research
I decided to do this audience research to find out what my targeted audince is into and what they would like to be in the music magazine. I also gave designs of my contents layout for them to see which they would prefer.
What kind of sections do you expect from a contents page of a music magazine?

From this audience research I have learned that I need to make sure coverlines on my front page are in red font, stick with the first title drawing suggested by the audience. I should also make sure that rap and hip hop are the main focuses in my music magazine, from the contents page i should have a brief intro from the editors note and summaries of the most important parts of the magazine features. Also I should have categories about new music, concerts ect... I should stick to the layout down the left of the page for the contents page and keep the masthead bold like the 'XXL' title but not as bold. It should involve black and white/gray colours in it.

What font type should the the text on the magazine be?

Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

By looking at this double page spread I can connote that it’s from a hip-hop/rap magazine because of the popular artist photo on the left side of the double page. The background of this spread is simple, plain white and then words are in black so it’s easily visible. The website link to find out more for this is at the bottom of the right page with the photographer’s name on top and the story producer’s name on the other side.
The colour scheme of this DPS is simple, plain white. Even for the photograph on the left side of the page the back ground is white; the colours are kept to the bare minimum, giving it a strong, important look to what this DPS has to offer. The large image in the left side of the page is the main image which DPS usually contain. It shows a man standing in his smart expensive tuxedo holding a bottle of expensive alcohol and a glass in his other hand possibly containing some drink in. From this the reader can denote that this artist earns a fortune, he is wealthy and although a bit big in size he is an idol for hip-hop. The background of the artist is plain but contains several balloons which gets the reader thinking that he’s a party guy or likes to throw expensive flashy parties to show off his riches. The subject holds several props on him such as; an alcohol bottle in his hand and a glass in the other, showing that he likes to drink, he also has tattoos over the back of his hands which you can see if you look closely and he has a diamond ring on his pinky finger along with an expensive watch on his wrist. The subject also has a napkin tucked in a front pocket of his tuxedo neatly and huge black sunglasses on to match his style and clothing.
The subject of the photo does not have a direct address; it’s rather like showing off, rich look to showcase what he has and what he likes. There is no text over the image except for the small by-line at the bottom right of the left page, showing that the main focus of the page is obviously the artist. The subject’s name ‘Rick Ross’ is placed under the main subject at a beginning of the strap line to indicate this whole article is about him. The strap line is clearly separated from the main subject which is mirrored symmetrically on top and underneath border lines which have boxed in the strap line. The small paragraph strap line is in cold and the font is bigger than the article below. The Subject of this DPS creates an interesting different kind of effect because of how it is mirrored around the words. The subject reads ‘MAN MADE’ which could possibly be a play with words from one of his songs; Made Man. The subject could mean that hip-hop/rap finally has what it’s looking for or the next big thing to a legend.
The huge Drop Capital/Stand first indicates the begging of the article and adds a more interesting look to it rather than making the letter just in bold. Stand first’s are good for catching the reader’s eye because the letter is big and bold and usually in a more bolder font to indicate it’s importance of the beginning of this article.
