Preliminary Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

In this assigment i'm going to analysis this front cover of a college magazine.

This picture of a front cover contains the main image, a guy with his books in his hand and a smile on his face like he's ready to succeed. There's text around the cover in all different fonts and colours to show the importance of the coverlines. There's a sign by the near side of his head indicating advertisment purposes for a certain activity. The masthead is titled 'College' in bold capitals so people know then magazine name, and its in bright yellow which could link to the date ontop of the masthead, 'Summer 2009'. but behind the guy's head because he's the main focus of the cover. The main coverline is placed under the masthead's left hand side. It's a bit bigger than the over coverlines so its easier for the reader to spot the main one.

His clothing is his own style which he's chosen to wear, it's not too much so his image could denotate that he likes his casual wear to wear out on an average day. Thr props in this image are mainly his books which he's showing to the readers that he's got the equipment he needs to study with. he's prepared and has his mind set to succeed. The title of the book's cover showing towards the reader 'Law, Business and Society', could possibly state that his course(s) are based around that certain topic so he has the right study materials. He also has a chain around his neck which denotes that he's into fashion bling, it suits his style to himself. The chain is a modified styled version of the cross which tells the reader that he's a christian, believes in God. Another fashion prop he has on is a watch.

The lighting seems to be from studio lights because he's not a natural light source shinning from one direction onto him. There are two lights shinning on him from two different directions. The NVC is shown from his facial expression that's he's happy with the way he's going in life with his studies.

Induction: Movie Poster Texture Analysis

This is another piece of work I have done for AS Media. We had to take this poster and analyse it using the five key features of mise-en-scene.

First of all is the way he's dressed, his style could represent that he's adventurous and he has that archaeologist look. He's holding a whip which could connote that he's prepared for trouble, also he has a fire-weapon on on his waist so it's like he's protected. Some of his shirt buttons are undone which could show that he's sweaty, he's been through a lot of work.

The lighting in this poster is dark around the edges which could denote that there's some type of mischief and mystery within this movie, he could be heading into places people normally would not go. The lighting around the sides of the shot seems to contrast with the Skull's bright rays so this could portray that the Skull is some type of light source and could lead them ahead.

Within this poster he has props on him. As mentioned before his whip and his gun are denote that he's protected and is prepared for attacks from enemies. Two of the key props are his whip and his hat, the two objects represent who he is because they've been in all the previous movies from the franchise. The audience will automatically identity who the main character is and what this movie will mainly be about.

The setting of this poster seems to be in a cave area, as he's an archaeologist and and adventures out, he goes and explores the unknown. The huge gold/orange lit up skull behind him could show that he's getting himself into something powerful and big so he needs to be prepared for what's coming up.

The Anchorage of the text is a pretty cartoon and comical type style, it makes it seem as if he's an actual character from the comic books. The colours of the title mix from top to bottom where it starts of bold red then tones down to a bright yellow with some partial orange in-between, making people think of fire, danger. This denotes that his name could mean he gets into trouble, he lurks out for danger.

The NVC used in this poster is shown by his posture and slight smirk on his face; as in he's brave, ready for anything and he's cocky. His fist's are clenched which could show that he's strong and has a lot of courage within what he does.

Induction. Re-creation of a movie magazine front cover.

This is my first piece of AS Media work. We has to re-construct a poster of our own from an original front cover of a magazine. Overall I thought it was pretty successful because I got all the main features that were displayed on the front cover, onto the copy version. What I thought was successful was how the words were structured onto the cover. I tried to get the same type of font and colour as from the cover and even place the heading around about the same area it was originally placed. What I thought went slightly wrong was the size of the main words from the cover because they wern't as thick as supposed but I did well enough getting the words into place.
